Abstract

This paper aims to identify the vision of the media elite in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the role of artificial intelligence techniques and algorithms in reducing false news on social media platforms in light of media and academic experience and practice. The study relied on the quantitative survey method to obtain the required results, which is the most used method in the field of descriptive research. The study applied to a sample of 65 individuals from the media elite people in Saudi Arabia. As a result of this study, there is a statistically significant relationship between the degree of exposure of the Saudi media elite to false news on social media platforms and their awareness of the contribution of artificial intelligence to limiting the spread of false news. Among the study’s recommendations are the necessity of applying hybrid machine learning techniques and neural networks to detect false news, confronting false news and misinformation on social media, intensifying scientific research and publishing for researchers in this field, and professional training for media workers on employing artificial intelligence tools in media institutions.
