Abstract

There is no doubt that the emergence of the Coronavirus at the beginning of the year 2020 and its transformation into a global pandemic had a great impact on various areas of life, as well as an indirect impact on different age groups especially those that use social media heavily. As many studies and opinion polls have deduced, the use of modern digital means of communication shows the excessive use of these tools in spreading the news about this pandemic and tracking the stages of its spread and development. This is in addition to highlighting what accompanied these stages with the closure and quarantine of some countries completely and other repercussions that accompanied and will accompany our lives in general to an unknown extent.

This study will examine a group of research papers that discussed the public’s use of modern digital means of communication in disseminating information and news related to the Coronavirus and the extent to which these means and technologies surrounding them were used more during the quarantine period, and the reflection of this use on their high level of awareness of the danger of the Coronavirus, especially in the Lebanese society. The general results of these readings showed that digital media was a double-edged sword at the same time, which contributed to fueling people’s general feelings of fear, anxiety, and fear of infection with this pandemic as a result of the publication of photos, videos, and reports that frightened the world This is even though later on it
was pointed out that some of these published media materials were fabricated and not related to the current stage, and some other materials were taken from unrelated video clips. However, in conjunction with that, Social media was also able to raise awareness of ways to prevent catching the infection and some methods of treatment or prevention.

This was especially through credible reports published by the World Health Organization about COVID –19, as well as photographed and published media and advertising materials under the supervision of accredited and trusted health centers and hospitals. The results of the studies ultimately focused on verifying the sources of information.
